<p>Alum, in which the trivalent metal is aluminum, has true deodorizing properties in contradistinction to materials that merely overlay unpleasant odors with pleasant ones. The other radical of the alum could be ammonia or a univalent metal such as potassium. The alum can be crystallized around a plastic former of an aesthetically pleasing shape. Where the deodorizer is in contact with food, it is preferred to place the former inside a cover, preferably a transparent one, with suitable openings to permit the circulation of air.</p> |
