The method involves sensing whether the vehicle has driven into an obstruction or is imminently about to collide, sensing whether all wheels of the vehicle are tending to lock up and switching off the anti-lock function so the full braking pressure demanded by the driver is delivered if both criteria are fulfilled. The collision can be detected with a crash sensor or with an acceleration sensor.
