<p>A fingerprint image evaluating method for evaluating with a simple method whether or not fingerprint ridge line information is included in a fingerprint image by allowing for the features of fingerprint ridge lines, wherein a density value at a reference point set within a fingerprint image and a density value at a comparison point set a preset distance apart from the reference point are acquired, and the quantity of fingerprint information contained in the fingerprint image is evaluated based on the difference between the acquired density values at reference and comparison points. Since the above fingerprint image evaluating method uses the feature of fingerprint ridge lines that fingerprint furrow lines are present in the vicinity of fingerprint ridge lines, non-fingerprint images are prevented from being erroneously determined as fingerprint images. In addition, the method only need determine the difference between acquired density values at reference and comparison points to thereby eliminate such a troublesome processing as extracting features from a fingerprint image.</p> |
