A medical care provider provides a network gateway (12) with descriptions of frequently prescribed medical devices thereon. A patient may access the gateway and use the gateway to facilitate the purchase of a prescribed medical device. The gateway communicates through an e-commerce provider (22) to medical supply vendors (18, 20) to arrange for the shipping of the purchased medical device and arrange for payment thereto.
