A moving body is provided that moves a measuring instrument-inspecting measurement master (M) between a retracted position in the vicinity of an en d of the measuring instrument's measuring table (3) and a measuring position o n the measuring table. The moving body and the measurement master are retracte d to the retracted position when a measuring object is measured to allow measuring by effectively using the entire measuring table, and the measureme nt master is quickly moved for setting to a measuring position by the moving bo dy during a between-measurements interval to permit a precision inspection and operation check on the measuring instrument itself.
