The system is esp. for gas turbines. The nozzles (2) are stationary and the chamber (4) may be formed between the stator wall and a rotor disc (3). Passages (5) in the disc deliver air from the chamber to the rotor blades (1), while the chamber contains a deflector plate (6) for the air from the nozzles causing the foreign particles to be projected into the radial outer portion of the chamber before entering the passages, and they are separated from the chamber together with barrier air derived from the incoming air. The nozzles can be formed by axial ports in the stator wall (7) and which are inclined to the turbine axis.
