A lithium secondary battery which has a long life and a low level of self-discharge when used in an environment at high temperatures. The lithium secondary battery comprises a cathode; an anode; and an electrolyte solution containing lithium ions, which further comprises a capturing agent having a function to capture, by absorption, binding, or adsorption, impurities or by-products which are produced in the lithium secondary battery.
