Alkaline electrochemical cells having a cathode porosity equal to or greater than 28%, and an anode porosity equal to or greater than 70%, and which have a KOH concentration calculated to be 50% after completion of the first electrode reaction, are able to operate with a reduced anode : cathode capacity ratio, thereby reducing deep discharge leakage and also having substantially increased performance characteristics. The cell may comprise a manganese dioxide cathode and zinc anode. |
