PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas which prevents the lowering of warming performance of the catalyst and an intra-bed temperature in an initial period after the start-up of an engine and meets the warming, an HC purification capacity, and durability by single catalyst composition. SOLUTION: In the catalyst comprising a cylindrical carrier having through holes in the axial direction, a support layer of a fire proofing inorganic oxide formed on the inner surface defining the through-holes, and a noble metal catalyst component supported on the support layer, the support layer is formed from the first layer portion in which a part in the axial direction of the carrier comprises at least one layer, the other part is formed from the second layer portion in which at least one additional layer is formed as compared with the first layer portion. |
