PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing advantageously fluorenes useful as intermediates for various organic synthetics and raw materials for various resins, capable of producing other useful compounds at the same time. SOLUTION: This method for producing fluorenes comprises subjecting a tertafydrofluorene compound to hydrogen transfer reaction in the presence of a hydrogen acceptor and a catalyst to form the fluorenes and hydrogenated products of the hydrogen acceptor at the same time.
