PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for drying the image receiving medium of an ink jet printer. SOLUTION: Means for generating a pressure difference between the upper surface 20 and the lower surface 50 of an image receiving medium is provided, and the pressure on the lower surface 50 of the image receiving medium 30 is lower than the pressure on the upper surface 20 of the image receiving medium 30. The means for generating the pressure difference comprises a vacuum pump 70 generating vacuum on the lower surface 50 of the image receiving medium 30 or a pneumatic pump for passing an air flow over the lower surface 50 of the image receiving medium 30 to generate 'Bernoulli effect'. The method for generating a pressure difference normally comprises a step for attaching ink liquid drops 10 to the upper surface 20 of the image receiving medium 30, and a step for generating a pressure difference between the upper surface 20 and the lower surface 50 of the image receiving medium 30, wherein carrier liquid contained in the ink liquid drops 10 is pulled from the upper surface 20 to the lower surface 50 through the image receiving medium 30. |
