PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method which performs plural times of coating by using an aqueous under coat on the surface of an inorganic base material and is capable of reducing the number of times of wet-on-wet coating or film thicknesses and an aqueous under coat composition used for the same. SOLUTION: The aqueous under coat composition used in under coating of the second time when the surface of the inorganic base material is subjected to at least two times of under coating is the aqueous under coat composition containing pigments having flat shapes. Aqueous under coat composition and aqueous under coat are applied on the first under coating film formed by the first under coating.
