PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot dip galvanizing method capable of performing safe working without causing splash in a molten zinc bath even if drying of a material to be plated is insufficient, improved in the reactivity of flux all over the surface of the material to be plated, and practically free from bare spots. SOLUTION: In the hot dip galvanizing method, a steel material, such as small-sized parts and long-sized tubing, from which oxide film is removed by pretreatment, is first immersed in a fused flux bath prepared by fusing and holding a flux, having a composition composed essentially of zinc chloride and consisting of 60-90 wt.% zinc chloride and the balance chlorides of at least one or more elements among alkali metals and alkaline earth metals, at 350-560 deg.C in one or more separate flux vessels. Then the above material is immersed in a molten zinc bath in another vessel. By this method, the generation of fumes from the molten zinc bath can also be minimized.
