PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for extraction of a nucleic acid using no material harmful to the environment or a human body, and capable of easily treating even a material containing impurities. SOLUTION: This method for extraction of a nucleic acid comprises a process in which a nucleic acid-containing material is mixed with a solution containing a surfactant, a salt, a buffering agent and a chelating agent, a process in which the obtained mixed solution is brought into contact with a solid support consisting of a polymer having a phosphate ester moiety in at least a part of the structural units and having a hydrophilic surface, and a process in which the solid support is separated from the solution.
