PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnet for noncontacting control of steel sheets which effectively acts even in the case that C warping is straightened and torsional oscillation is suppressed. SOLUTION: The electromagnets 2, 3 are provided on both sides of the steel sheet 1 in vertically opposite positions. Plural sets of these electomagnets are provided in the width direction of the steel sheet. The C warping and oscillation of the steel sheet 1 are detected with a controller not shown in a figure in accordance with position variation in the vertical direction in the prescribed positions in the width direction of the steel sheet 1 measured with position sensors 4 and the exciting current of each electromagnet 2, 3 is controlled so as to suppress these warping and oscillation. The magnetic pole generating faces 2a and 2b, 3a and 3b of each electromagnet 2, 3 are mutually arranged in the longitudinal direction of the steel sheet 1. Thus, even in the case that the C warping and oscillation are generated, on one electromagnet 2, a distance between the magnetic pole generating face 2a and the steel sheet 1 is kept as same as the distance between the megnetic pole generating face 2b and the steel sheet 1. The same thing can be mentioned about the other electromagnet 3.
