PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sea water strainer of an engine for a ship capable of favorably and efficiently performing sea water intake. SOLUTION: A suction member 21 is connected to a water intake pipe 20 with the center 27 of a suction port 22 biased to a bow with respect to the axis 24 of the water intake pipe 20. A filter plate 5 is removably mounted on the suction port 22, and formed by a filter part 53 inclined downward toward the stern and a non-filter part 54 inclined upward toward the stern to be substantially V-shaped in a vertical section. An inner wall 21a on the bow side of the suction member 21 is connected to an inner wall 20a on the bow side of the waiter intake pipe 20 from the bow side end part 55a of the filter part 53. The stern side inner wall surface 21v of the suction member 21 is connected in the state of being bulged from the stern side inner wall surface 20b of the water intake pipe 20 in the direction of the stern to the stern side inner wall surface 20b of the water intake pipe 20 from the stern side end part 54a of the non-filter part 54. Ship's bottom coating is applied to the bow side inner wall surface 21a of the suction member 21.
