PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for continued vehicle control at a vehicle speed below a minimum operating speed threshold when a detected target disappears, based on a virtual target generated for compensating for the loss of the detected target. SOLUTION: This method comprises the steps of determining whether the vehicle speed is less than the minimum operating speed threshold; determining whether the detected target has disappeared if the vehicle speed is less than the minimum operating speed; and generating the virtual target having a distance and a distance rate corresponding to a last known distance and a last known distance rate, respectively, of the detected target if the detected target has disappeared. This method further comprises the step of controlling a vehicle based on the distance and the distance rate of the virtual target.
