PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an assured treatment of massive garbage and enhance efficiency of a pump and a dehydrator in a garbage treatment apparatus wherein the garbage together with water is transferred by the pump to the dehydrator located in another room. SOLUTION: A mesh plate 11 having meshes in accordance with allowable sizes of the garbage transferred by the pump 3 is secured in a swingable manner to an upper part of a tank 2 into which the garbage and the water are fed and small garbage such as leftover food is transferred to the dehydrator 5 by the pump 3. The massive garbage remaining on the mesh plate 11 and the garbage floating in water is made to flow into a collection box 18 from upon the mesh plate 11 via a discharge opening 14 and collected into a collecting cage 19. The pump 3 detects a water level which has risen to a vicinity of the discharge opening 14 and is started after the time for allowing the water level to exceed the mesh plate to transfer the garbage into the collection box 18, and is stopped when the water level is lowered to a specified level. The dehydrator 5 for dehydrating the garbage transferred by the pump 3 is provided with an air duct 55 for blowing air.
