PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a modified rubber having a suppressed permanent deformation and an increased hysteresis loss ratio and a rubber composition comprising the modified rubber and having excellent vibration-damping property. SOLUTION: This modified rubber having a high hysteresis loss is modified by compounding a rubber having a cis 1,4-diene structure with at least one kind of sulfonic acid compound. This rubber composition is characterized in that the rubber composition comprises the modified rubber. The rubber composition is a rubber material showing a high hysteresis loss by high deformation and is suitable for a mount and a laminate for quake-free, vibrationproof and damping material for earthquake resistance of structure of construction, engineering works, etc., and damping, vibration proof, vibration isolation of machines, various kinds of instruments, handicrafts, etc.
