The invention relates to a drum-type cooking apparatus for processing granular material, especially for cooking corn grits used for the production of cornflakes, comprising a receptacle (12) that can rotate around an axis and comprising at least two nozzle arrangements (30) that are peripherally arranged on the receptacle (12) in a dispersed manner. According to the invention, at least one nozzle of one of the nozzle arrangements opens into the area covered by the material, and at least one nozzle of the other nozzle arrangement (30) opens into the area that is free from material. In addition, the drum-type cooking apparatus comprises a control device for controlling the nozzles between an air injection mode and a ventilation mode. The invention also provides that each nozzle assembly (30) comprises both at least one air injection nozzle (76, 78) as well as at least one ventilation nozzle (82, 84) that has a larger cross-section than that of the air injection nozzle (76, 78).
