PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying a blast furnace capable of easily and rapidly separating and removing a furnace bottom section. SOLUTION: This method consists in renewing the furnace bottom section 9 by drilling a plurality of through-holes 12 in a horizontal direction at a blast furnace foundation section 11 right below the furnace bottom section 9, horizontally cutting the foundation section 11 in the position of the through-holes 12 to disconnect the furnace bottom section 9 and the foundation section 11, installing fluid pressure lift mechanisms into the through-holes 12, increasing the fluid pressure thereof to rise the furnace bottom section 9 and to form a spacing between the furnace bottom section 9 disconnected between the through-holes 12 and the foundation section 11, installing moving means to the whole or part of the spacing, dropping the fluid pressure of the fluid pressure lift mechanisms to support the furnace bottom section 9 by these moving means and horizontally moving the furnace bottom section 9 by utilizing the same. The moving means are rolling rollers 23 and the means for horizontally cutting the foundation section 11 in the positions of the through-holes 12 are wire saws.
