PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent paper feeding trouble, jamming and overlapped feeding in separating and feeding paper in simple structure. SOLUTION: It is possible to make following paper separating and feeding motion favourable as a residing sheet P can be returned to a paper feeding cassette 14 by reversing a paper feeding roller 11 for each cycle of the paper separating and feeding motion even when the sheet P is delivered to a nip N with a friction pad 12 by the paper feeding roller 11 and a part of the sheet P resides on the friction pad 12 or in the neighbourhood of it by paper separation and feeding.
