An apparatus for extraction of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants from soil and ground water includes a separator adapted to separate liquids based upon their differing densities. The separator has a contaminated ground water inlet, a separated water outlet, at least one separated contaminant outlet, and a separator overflow outlet. A treater is provided which is adapted to treat dissolved volatile hydrocarbons in separated water. The treater has an inlet connected to the separated water outlet of the separator and a treated water outlet . A treated water connection is provided for the treated water outlet of the treater whereby a treated water disposal conduit is connected for disposal of treated water. An overflow connection is provided for the separator overflow outlet, whereby an overflow conduit is connected to divert overflow from the separator to a selected safe disposal site.
