997,702. Hot briquetting cylinder press. H. W. KOPPERN, and H. K. SCHAFER, [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK KOPPERN & CO. KOMM.-GES.]. July 10, 1961 [July 8, 1960], No. 24968/61. Heading B5A. In a double cylinder press for the hob briquetting of coal &c., cylinders 1, 2 operate within a sealed housing containing a protective inert gas and are fed from a hopper 8 inside a machine frame 3 of double-walled construction 18, 19, through which cooling fluid circulates. Briquetting moulds are contained in bands 10 fastened around the circumference of each cylinder and heat insulated by compressed asbestos 14. Sealed bearings 25, Fig. 3, are provided which are force oilcooled and lubricated through flange 28 whereof cooling water may be circulated; one of the pairs being hydraulically displaceable by a pair of pistons 65, 68 respectively above and below shaft 11 and the closed hydraulic control system therefor (Fig. 8, not shown) is cooled and may be coupled to adjust roller speed or the feed rate according to pressure at the rolls. The internal bearing seals comprise a stuffing box gland 36 operated via lever cam system 37, 39 by spring regulator wheel 42. The protective gas seal (Fig. 3) between the movable bearings and the frame comprises a U-shaped cavity 43 circumscribing shaft 11 within which a seal packing 44 engages against a ring element 45 of the frame. In a further embodiment the sealed inert gas housing may be within the frame 3. |
