A spindle 2 carrying a pair of friction discs 3 (only one shown) is moved to bring one of the discs 3 into driving contact with a flywheel 4, by means of a pair of non-rotatable annular plungers 6 each operated hydraulically or pneumatically and acting on an end shoulder 8 of the spindle 2. When the plungers 6 are not under pressure the spindle 2 is centred by compression springs 12. |
