PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create a rolling method for shapes and the universal roll stand corresponding to this method by which the shapes are better rolled, especially, with comparatively small tolerance. SOLUTION: Horizontal rolls 2 and 3 are screwed down to a horizontal actual roll gap h with hydraulic cylinder units 8 and 9 additional reference value o' is set to the hydraulic cylinder units 8 and 9 and, based on this additional reference value, the horizontal rolls 2 and 3 are vertically moved in the same direction and at the same value.
