PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a reel for winding an extremely fine metal wire such as a saw wire with a lightweight material having high strength and rigidity. SOLUTION: Flanges 2, 2 are connected by welding to both ends of a winding drum 1 to form this welded reel. A high-tension steel sheet with the thickness of 1.0-2.0 mm is molded into a corrugated shape by press machining, then it is bent into a cylindrical shape to manufacture the winding drum 1. A plurality of ribs 1a are formed into a slender groove shape on the outer peripheral side and a slender lug shape on the inner peripheral side, extended to the vicinities of both ends of the winding drum 1, and aligned at fixed intervals. For example, the high-tension steel sheet with the thickness of 1.6 mm is pressmolded, inward bulge sections 2b bulged toward the longitudinal inside of the winding drum 1 are provided, and radial ribs 2c are provided on jaw sections 2a. The inward bulge sections 2b of the flanges 2, 2 at both ends are coupled with the inner peripheral portions at both ends of the winding drum 1 and spot-welded.
