PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ester by reacting an organic acid with a monohydric alcohol in the presence of an organic metal catalyst, by which the volume specific resistance of the obtained ester is improved. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ester, characterized by adding a polyhydric alcohol to an esterification reaction product to inactivate a catalyst, subjecting the mixture to steam distillation to remove a monohydric alcohol, and then treating the residue with an adsorbent for the polyhydric alcohol to remove the polyhydric alcohol.
