PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the cleaning work of the footsteps of an escalator and invariably keep the footsteps clean. SOLUTION: A cover 7 colored in an attention arousing color is fitted to at least attention band portions 5, 6 of the tread of each footstep 2, the cover 7 can be removed from the tread and replaced with a new one in the repair work, and the labor and time required for the repair work are reduced. Since the cover 7 having an irregular shape coupled with the irregular shape of the tread is fitted to the whole face of the tread, the cover 7 is firmly fitted to the tread of the footstep 2.
