PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method by which the coating weight is precisely controlled within a fixed control range with a relatively simple equipment when applying a coating liquid on a tubular material such as a steel pipe to be coated. SOLUTION: In the coating method for applying the coating material on the outside surface of a tubular or a cylindrical material to be coated which is rotated in the circumferential direction and moved in the longitudinal direction, the coating liquid is applied on the outer peripheral surface of the material to be coated by allowing the surface of a coating roll which is constituted so that the coating liquid is supplied into the inside and exuded on the surface of the roll from plural liquid exuding holes provided to penetrate the drum part of the roll, to contact with the outer peripheral surface 3 of the material to be coated.
