PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform filtration operation endlessly by an ascending flow type rapid sand filter. SOLUTION: In an ascending flow type sand filter, a net or punching metal 2 for controlling the expansion of sand is attached avove a sand level and a screw for washing and circulating sand and a screw cylinder 3 are attached to the center part of a filter bed while a strainer chamber 4 for washing wastewater and a socket for pumping out washing wastewater are attached to the lower part of the center of the screw cylinder and the wastewater sucked from the socket is discharged by the drain pump 6 outside a filter machine through a piping 5. The control of sand, the circulating and washing of sand and the discharge function of washing wastewater are performed.
