PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a proper rolled stock and to dissolve the possibility that upper and lower rolls are brought into contact by bringing a roll profile in hot-rolling after grinding close to the target profile. SOLUTION: A measured profile is off-line measured, the quantity of thermal expansion of a roll at hot-rolling is estimated, a calculated profile in hot-rolling after grinding is determined based on the estimated value of the thermal expansion and the measured profile and the quantity to be ground in each part in the axial direction of the roll is decided so that the calculated profile becomes the target profile. Furthermore, the amount of roll wear in the hot-rolling is estimated. The contact position between the roll and the rolling stock is estimated or measured and only noncontact part is ground based on the measured profile. The bend of the rolled stock after hot-rolling is measured and the position to be ground in the axial direction of the roll is decided. One side or both upper roll and lower roll are ground so that the diameter difference between the upper and lower rolls is within the target range. The roll life after changing is prolonged and trouble in rolling is suppressed.
