The invention relates to a process for the recovery of lead from lead slag and lead-sulphate and oxide containing materials. In order to recover lead in highly efficient manner, and to decrease the pollution of the environment and the comsumption of the energy, the slag is melted in a short rotary furnace together with 5...35% anhydrous sodium carbonate and 2...20% coal at temperature ranging from 700 to 1200 degree C, thus obtaining levels of lead recovery of over 90%.
