PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission operating device capable of switching a gear shift range without increasing dimension of the whole of the operating device. SOLUTION: This operating device has a main gate 12 directed in the fore and aft direction of a vehicle and for guiding a select bar to a range position corresponding to each range of P, R, N, D and a sub gate 15 extended in the car cross direction from the range position of the D range of the main gate 12 and for guiding the select bar 5 to a gear shift range switching position near the end of the sub gate. Each time when a first detecting switch 32 is turned on in the condition that the select bar 5 is switched to the gear shift range switching position, the gear shift range for determining the gear shift range of the automatic transmission is switched to a gear shift range having a wider gear shift range, and each time when a second detecting switch 33 is turned on, the gear shift range is switched to a gear shift range having a narrower gear shift range. |
