PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a mechanical splice which can prevent the erroneous insertion of an optical fiber easily and at a low cost, even when there are few coated optical fibers to be inserted. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the mechanical splice 1 equipped with a V groove substrate 4 having a guide V groove 3 for positioning and aligning the optical fibers facing each other by butting and supporting them, a pressing substrate 5 which has the plane for pressing down the optical fiber inserted in the guide V groove 4, and an optical fiber clamping member 6 for clamping the V groove substrate 4 and the pressing substrate 5, and holding the optical fiber, more guide V grooves 4 are formed previously, by melting the guide V groove 4 by a laser if necessary, the guide function is made to disappear, and the guide V groove 3 is set into the desired number of grooves.
