PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a flat platy silver halide grain emulsion superior in preservability. SOLUTION: In the method for preparing the flat platy silver halide grain emulsion having parallel twin faces, the twin faces are formed by adding Ag+ ions and halogen ions to a dispersant solution containing a dispersant not substantially containing colloidal silica, water and a 1st adsorbent selected from among (i) a compound containing one or more onium salt groups in one molecule, (ii) an aromatic compound having one or more iodine groups and one or more -OH groups substituted on the aromatic ring, (iii) a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound containing one or more heterocycles each containing two or more nitrogen atoms in the 4- to 7-membered ring in one molecule, (iv) cyanine dyes, (v) a compound having a divalent sulfur-containing heterocyclic group, (vi) a thiourea compound, (vii) aminothio-ethers and (viii) a divalent sulfur-containing or organic compound with carbon total number of 25 or smaller.
