PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch operation to attach importance to throughput performance and operation to attach importance to response time according to distance to a host device. SOLUTION: In this storage controller 10, information regarding the distance to the host devices A20, B30, C40 is inputted from a service processor 50, the information is held in a connection distance information table 1060 and a degree of multiplexing of I/O to be processed on the side of the storage controller is controlled by every host device by referring to the connection distance information table 1060. Thus, the throughput performance is enhanced by increasing the number of I/O to which a multiple I/O processing is performed when the distance to the host devices is large and the response time is shortened by reducing the number of I/O to which the multiple I/O processing is performed or performing a single I/O processing when the distance to the host devices are small.
