PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having high mechanical strength, while ensuring solvent cracking resistance, also having satisfactory resistance to electricity through direct electrification and easy to produce. SOLUTION: In the electrophotographic photoreceptor with an electrically conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer, the surface layer of the photoreceptor contains a polyarylate resin, having a constituent unit of formula 1 (where X is -CR3R4- (R3 and R4 are each H, alkyl or the like), cycloalkylidene or the like; R1 and R2 are each H, halogen or the like; and (a) and (b) are each independently an integer of 0-4), and a hydrazone compound of formula 2 (where Y1 and Y2 are each optionally substituted alkyl or the like; and Y3 and Y4 are each H, alkyl or the like).
