PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position controller capable of detecting the unwilling misalignment of an actuator, a method for detecting the abnormality of the position controller and an automatic assembling machine. SOLUTION: An actuator 24-1 e.g. for position control is selected from an actuator group 24 on the basis of an actuator selection signal outputted from a main control unit 11, an encoder 25-1 for detecting the position information of the actuator 24-1 is selected from an encoder group 25 and the selected actuator 24-1 is controlled by an actuator driving signal outputted from a positioning unit 13. The position information of the actuator 24-1 is fed back to the unit 13 by the selected encoder 25-1. Whether a signal from an unselected encoders 25-2 e.g. is included within a prescribed set range or not is monitored by a comparator 29, and when the signal exceeds the set range, an abnormality signal is sent to a master production controller 17.
