PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a determining device for the seating passenger number on vehicle seats for exactly determining the kind of seating passengers and distinguishing the seating passengers from objects such as a child seat and the like by utilizing a reference load plane distribution shape simulating contact surface shape between the hip of a man and the seating surface of a seat. SOLUTION: A seat sensor is provided with a plurality of sensor parts, positioned scattered in parallel to and in a plane on the seating surface in the seating part of a seat and detects the load according with load state with respect to the seating part. Correlation coefficients Ra and Rv, indicating the degree of agreement between the plane distribution shape of the detection load of each sensor part and the reference load plane distribution shape simulating the contact surface shape between the hip of a man and the seating surface of the seat determine which of adult region 'Larea', a child region 'Sarea' and a child seat region 'Carea' to which they belong.
