The procedure consists of making strips of material by cutting them from a tube in a spiral line at a predetermined angle, i.e. on the bias, and joining them together. The tube can be knitted or woven in that shape, or can be made by joining together strips of existing material, not necessarily of stretch fabric, to make a width of 50 - 160 cm and joining its lengthwise edges. The strips cut from it on the bias, at angles varying e.g. between 38 and 48 degrees, are joined together by their lengthwise edges, using sewn seams, welding or adhesive, producing a fabric with a stretch capability. The bias angle can be varied from one strip to another, and the finished fabric can combine different materials, such as woven fabric, ribbon, lace and tape, and can incorporate pieces of paper or plastic, parts of garments, commercial labels, or material that are reflective, anti-static, anti-bacterial, fire resistant, conducting, insulating or with other properties.
