A mold has two parts whose peripheral zones come together in a joint plane when the mold is closed. One mold part has a central block and a peripheral block that slide relative to each other when the mold is closed. The central block includes most/all of the surface for shaping the molded article. An Independent claim is included for using the above mold to form an article that has a sheet encapsulated in a molding material. The sheet is placed on the central block which is then moved relative to the peripheral block to elongate the peripheral part of the sheer. The mold is then closed so the two peripheral zones contact each other. The blocks then return to their original relative position while keeping the zones in contact.
