PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a ferrule capable of being easily assembled with high precision and also reducing the assembling time. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the ferrule 10 consisting of a ferrule cylindrical body 20 which holds the end part of a polarization maintaining optical fiber and a collar member 30 which is provided in the back end part of the ferrule cylindrical body 20 and holding a polarization maintaining coated optical fiber, the ferrule 10 is manufactured by a process for providing the collar member 30 in the back end part of the ferrule cylindrical body 20, a process for fixing the polarization maintaining optical fiber and the polarization maintaining coated optical fiber to the ferrule 10, a process for polishing the end surfaces of the ferrule cylindrical body 20 and the polarization maintaining optical fiber, a process for observing the direction of the polarization surface of the polarization maintaining optical fiber, and a process for providing a key groove 34 which engages with the housing of an optical connector and serves as a rotational stop in a prescribed position in the polarization surface direction on the outer periphery of the collar member 30 in which the polarization maintaining optical fiber is observed.
