PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine capable of efficiently cooling a motor when driving a cutter head with the motor, sharply improving the work environment in the machine, having a simple structure, and capable of widening the effective space in the machine to the maximum. SOLUTION: This shield machine 1 excavating and advancing in the ground via the rotation of the cutter head 4 rotatably fitted to the tip section of a shield body 2 is provided with the water-cooled motor 5 rotatively driving the cutter head 4, a circulating pump 31 circulating the cooling water of the motor 5 mounted in the shield machine 1, a heat exchanger 20 arranged on the inside of the outer peripheral wall face of the shield machine 1 along the outer peripheral wall face and cooling the cooling water of the motor 5 by heat exchange, and pipes 32, 33, 34 circularly connecting the motor 5, the circulating pump 31, and the heat exchanger 20.
