PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and instrument for inspecting a simple matrix type liquid crystal panel, a method and instrument for inspecting a plasma display panel by which the disconnection of an electrode can more easily be inspected. SOLUTION: In this method for inspecting the disconnection of plural lines of electrodes 100 and 101 provided on a panel B, either one of the electrode 100 or 101 is selected, a voltage changing with time is supplied to one end of the selected electrode 101a, the voltage appearing through electrostatic capacity by the supply of the voltage to the electrode 101a is measured with respect to the electrode 100a orthogonally intersecting the selected electrode 101a and whether or not the measured voltage is within the prescribed range is decided by a computer 6, thus whether or not the disconnection occurred in the electrode 101a is decided.
