A control unit (17) for, exhaust gas recycling unit (4) and turbo-compressor and /or fuel feed system, is designed to trigger a filter regeneration phase by combustion of the trapped filter particles, in which multiple fuel injection is triggered in the engine cylinders during their ignition phase. The unit (17) drives the fuel feed (8) to vary the phasing and/or amount of injected fuel at the time of regeneration, so as to control the nitrous dioxide level in the exhaust. The diesel engine is linked to various systems amongst which are:engine air admission unit (2); exhaust gas recycling unit (4) which recycles the gas as function of its oxygen level at the moment of filter regeneration; turbo-compressor; oxidization catalyzer (6) fitted in front of the particle filter (7) in the exhaust pipe; common fuel feed unit (8) for engine cylinders, including electrically controlled injectors (9,10,11,12); a unit (16) which adds an additive to the fuel, designed to be deposited on the particle filter to lower the combustion temperature of the trapped particles; a data acquisition system (20,21,22,23,24) which collects data relative to different engine, and its associated parts, operating parameters; a unit (17) which controls the operation of the air admission unit, recycling unit, turbo-compressor and/or fuel feed.
