PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective liquid crystal display device which is excellent in designing, rich in fashionability and displays characters and video information with a bright and achromatic white display and an achromatic and metallic display. SOLUTION: The reflective liquid crystal display device is provided of which the reflection performance is optimized with a bright light absorptive polarizing plate 11, a reflective polarizing plate 14, a scattering layer 15, a mirror reflection plate 16 and a TN(twisted nematic) liquid crystal element 20 or an STN (supertwisted nematic) liquid crystal element 21 color compensated with an optical retardation plate 12 or a twisted optical retardation plate 13. Also a semitransmissive reflective liquid crystal display device is provided of which the reflection and transmission perfonnance is optimized by equipping a mirror semitransmissive reflection plate 17 and a backlight 18 in place of the mirror reflection plate 16. |
