PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable realization of the function of 'tracking reproduction' and also to solve the problems such as the heat generation of a disk motor or a disk motor driving circuit, the increase of power consumption of a device and the cost increase due to the use of a large capacity buffer memory. SOLUTION: This device is a VDR for recording/reproducing to a recordable/ reproducible optical disk 1, the linear recording density of which is constant over the inner/outer peripheries, while having the spirally formed recording track, and it is provided with a control circuit 7 and a system controller 8 for controlling the rotation speed of the optical disk 1 at the recording time so as to become the prescribed linear speed (three times as much as the speed at the normal time) and controlling the rotation speed at the reproducing time to the rotation speed just before the recording time when the 'tracking reproduction' is executed to the optical disk 1, and also controlling at the time of recording/reproducing operation so as to record/reproduce while making an optical pickup 2 move from the outer peripheral side to the inner peripheral side in accordance with the rotation of the optical disk 1.
