PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost and power consumption of a matrix type image display device, which supplies image data selectively to matrix-arrayed pixels through scanning lines GLj (j=1, 2... n) and data signal lines and makes them hold the data, by eliminating the need for additional constitution such as an interface circuit by absorbing the difference between the input signal level from an external circuit such as a control circuit and an image signal processing circuit and the actual drive signal level of each pixel. SOLUTION: Sampling pulses of 0V and 5V outputted from a logic circuit LOGj have their high-potential side shifted to 10V and their low-potential sides to-8V respectively by two series-connected stages of level shifts LS1j and LS2j. Thus, the need for an interface circuit etc., between the external circuit and scanning signal line driving circuit GD is eliminated to reduce the cost and power consumption.
