PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for managing HOSTS files that can simply revise a host name and an IP address given to each host without the need for maintenance personnel to individually re-set HOSTS files to all hosts in a LAN of a client-server type adopting the TCP/IP. SOLUTION: IP addresses, host names and groups names uniquely defining hosts 10, 20, etc., are correspondingly described in HOSTS files provided to all the hosts 10, 20, etc., in the LAN. A server system 10 uses a server program 15 to generate division HOSTS files 1a-1z for each group and a division HOSTS file 1'b editing IP addresses or host names are distributed to client systems 20, etc. The client system 20, etc., use a client program 25 to overwrite contents of the division HOSTS file 1'b on the stored HOSTS file 1.
